ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi has said that the religious leadership of the country will not allow any move to amend or remove “Islamic Sections” (62-63) from the constitution of Pakistan,
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Ashrafi said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership should not stir controversies that could be detrimental for inter-institutional harmony.
Commenting on prevailing move on part of PML-N’s ruling elite to remove Section 62-63 from the constitution, the PUC chief stated that any such move on part of the ruling elite would not be tolerated.
He said that the PUC had started coordination with leading religious parties of the country, while the council would also host a procession of leading religious and political organisations of the country on this particular issue in Lahore next week.
He urged all political organisations of the country to stay away from creating controversies with state institutions. “Stability and security of the country lies in supremacy of the constitution and continuity of democratic process. Anyone in the country will not be allowed to play with constitution and democracy in the country,” said Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi.
He also demanded the political parties to legislate on accountability and election’s code of conduct ahead of next general elections.
Responding to a query, Ashrafi said that the PUC would participate in next general elections.
Ashrafi also urged all intending pilgrims from Pakistan not to participate in any political gathering during Hajj day in Harmain Al-Sharifain.
He underlined that political gatherings and political processions on eve of Hajj in Harmain Al-Sharifain could be harmful for peace and sanctity of Makkah; therefore, any such bid to create chaos inside Harmain Al-Sharifain during the pilgrimage would not be tolerated by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
“Enemies of Islam and Muslims are hatching conspiracies to disrupt peace and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Conspiracies are being harboured to fan sectarian violence in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.” Referring to the Qatar-Arab rift, Ashraif stated that dispute should be settled through bilateral talks and leadership of Qatar should ensure implementation of all agreements inked with Saudi Arabia.
Maulana Abdul Hameed Sabri, Maulana Muhammad Tayyab Qadri, Maulana Shafi Qasmi, Maulana Shakeel Qasmi, Maulana Saad Ullah Ludhyanvi, Maulana Tahir Aqeel Awan, Maulana Nauman Hashir, Mufti Hafizur Rehman and Maulana Muhammad Naib Khan were also present on the occasion.
